Everybody has a go-to drink for the holidays. For my father growing up it was always vodka and orange juice. It never made sense to me because it lacked any Christmas-specific ingredients. But there he was on the 24th sipping on screwdrivers and listening to Elvis sing Christmas tunes. My mom either had eggnog, spiked or not, and warmed up apple cider with a few extra spices thrown in for good measure. Me? I was always a hot chocolate fan. I probably made mine out of a package with hot water and whipped cream. If only I knew then….
Ever since I learned to cook and mix drinks, I learned the importance of quality ingredients and never settling for sub-par options. So out went the packaged stuff and water was saved for hydration purposes. My hot chocolate was about full milk, real dark chocolate, cocoa and many more mouth-watering ingredients.
But the day came when I worked in a bar and learned the art of mixology and creating our own ingredients and syrups. It also meant experimenting at home with homemade bitters, infused alcohol and DIY blends. So I resorted back to an old tried and true standard and made my own peppermint schnapps. The one ingredient guaranteed to take your hot chocolate to a level perfect enough for sipping on Christmas eve and sharing the joy of the holidays with loved ones.
Because it’s the holidays and because of The Boys Club I decided to make schnapps again. For you. And also a bit for me. So head on over to my post on The Boys Club to read the full post and get the recipes for this amazing cocktail. Plus, check out a few different pictures while you’re at it.
